Netherlands-born Marcel van der Vlugt shows a side to beauty that is often not shown publicly or even, privately. He plays with subjects that are considered taboo to create extremely striking images that may also appear disturbing. Nonetheless, the beauty in his work is apparent.
Marcel puts what most people consider as unusual on the models' faces. Some of what he has used include cheese, salmon and bandages. His images transpire beyond commercial work as they have a fine art edge to it.
His imagery pushes boundaries and creates reactions within the viewer. It makes us ponder about what is normal and what is considered beautiful.
These series is disturbing yet very stunning. I love how he brings beauty photography to the next level. I am unsure what these images are trying to tell though. However, the fourth image from the top are the most disturbing of all. I feel goosebumps looking at it. I feel like photography has no boundaries. Your imagination can be as wild as you want. What could be seen as something ugly can look amazing in the hand of a good photographer
